Lemp Mansion is one of St. Louis’s grandest homes, which housed generations of one of the city’s most prominent — and troubled — families. Among tragic accounts of untreated mental illness and untimely deaths are stories of underground passages, false claims to the family fortune, rumors of a generational curse, and even a child hidden away in the attic. In the Naval Park in Buffalo, New York, three majestic ships float quietly in the water, part of a large-scale tribute to the United States Military and the sacrifices made by soldiers who were wounded or killed in the name of freedom. Many believe the ships to still be haunted by the men who served on them. Eyewitness accounts detail hearing phantom footsteps and mysterious whispers, objects flying across the room, and blurred faces in photos. Some people report seeing full-body apparitions in places where there are no other living people.

Missouri State Penitentiary was decommissioned in 2004, after nearly 170 years of brutal incarceration. But the stories of harsh punishments and austere living conditions still live on in the buildings today — in the people who come to visit the prison, and in the spirits who have stayed behind, replaying their years at what is sometimes called the “bloodiest 47 acres in America,” over and over into infinity. In Asbury Park, NJ in 1934, nearly 100,000 people paid 25 cents apiece to view the charred remains of a shipwreck where 140 people burned to death. Today, the theatre next to where the ship breached is said to be haunted by those killed in the tragedy. Special guest: Kathy Kelly

Famously haunted, full of history dark and otherwise, the Saint Augustine Lighthouse is one of many ghostly locations in the oldest city in America. It's also the most visible, her famous black spiral viewable from almost anywhere in town.
