Ep19 - Jeepers Creepers - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep19 - Jeepers Creepers

Released on 01/21/2019

Although the eponymous creeper does not offer many lasting frights, the true monster of this film is much more chilling. Director/writer Victor Salva, a convicted sex offender, pled guilty in 1988 to the horrendous sexual abuse of a child actor. He later went on to be hired by big studios and producers including Disney and Francis Ford Coppola. Even if this movie was our generation's Citizen Kane (let's be clear, it is not) we cannot separate the monster from the art. And we don't need to. We also aren't hanging any of Hitler's paintings on our walls.
Ep18 - Troll 2 - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep18 - Troll 2

Released on 01/14/2019

Objectively one of the worst movies ever made, Troll 2 is everything we hoped for and more. What started as one lady's rant against her annoying vegetarian friends has since become a cult favorite movie of Rocky Horror Picture Show proportions. In this episode we talk about the cast of the film (including a local dentist and patient from a nearby psychiatric facility), the penny pinching producers, and the fact that this movie is not actually a sequel to anything and has exactly zero trolls in it.
Ep17 - American Werewolf In London - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep17 - American Werewolf In London

Released on 01/07/2019

Beware the moon, and keep clear of the moors. With its shredded tracheas and ironically upbeat moon-themed soundtrack, American Werewolf in London delivers both gore and laughs. Kate spends much of this week’s meeting fangirling  over special effects artist Rick Baker while Chris remarks on how much our fanged foe resembles an adorable fluffy spitz.  In the end, American Werewolf kicks Hereditary out of it’s place on the scoreboard and settles deservedly into the club’s Top Three.
Ep16 - Silent Night Deadly Night - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep16 - Silent Night Deadly Night

Released on 01/01/2019

From killer Santas to repressed Nuns to gratuitous nudity, this movie has it all. Rated as one of the worst horror movies of all time, Chris and Kate are shocked with how much they genuinely adore this movie. Listen to our Christmas Special and join the Silent Night Deadly Night cult.
Ep15 - The Nun - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep15 - The Nun

Released on 12/27/2018

Could it be that we have finally found a movie worse than Halloween? Listen to hear our less than kind review of one of 2018's most anticipated horror blockbusters and see if it can take the bottom slot of our scoreboard!
Ep14 - The Shining - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep14 - The Shining

Released on 12/10/2018

We finally did it! We finally reviewed The Shining! Sorry it took so long, but we knew this one would be a doozy. Easily the densest ‘meeting’ yet, our Shining episode is packed with behind the scenes trivia (spoiler alert: Kubrick is insane) and comparisons to Stephen King’s original novel. Despite Chris’s somewhat apathetic reception of the film when compared to Kate’s predictably enthusiastic review, The Shining finds a cozy spot in the Top 5 of the #NHMovieClub scoreboard.
Ep13- Oculus - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep13- Oculus

Released on 12/03/2018

This is a very special episode/meeting of the Nightlight Horror Movie Club. Chris actually LIKES the horror movie of the week! And it's easy to see why. Mike Flanagan's Oculus is a work of absolute brilliance. In this episode, we dig into the extensive metaphors and interpretations of Oculus, including our own where the entire family has rabies.
Ep12- Drag Me To Hell - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep12- Drag Me To Hell

Released on 11/26/2018

Episode 12 of the Nightlight Horror Movie Club reviews Sam Raimi's horror comedy Drag Me To Hell. Chris and Kate (and surprisingly most movie critics)actually agree that this movie is surprisingly delightful. Disgusting, but delightful. This movie earns a pretty respectable spot on the scoreboard, and Kate argues to retroactively alter the ranking of a previously reviewed horror comedy, Idle Hands.
Ep11- Paranormal Activity - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep11- Paranormal Activity

Released on 11/19/2018

Episode 11 of the Nightmare Horror Movie Club digs into what is objectively the most profitable film of any genre of all time: Paranormal Activity. With a paltry budget of $15k, a director who has never worked in film before, and 7 days of shooting this movie brings a new face to found footage films. We go through this movies unusual marketing, split critical reception, discuss the three alternate endings, and more.
Ep10- The Conjuring - The Nightlight Horror Movie Club

Ep10- The Conjuring

Released on 11/12/2018

Episode 10 of The Nightlight Horror Movie Club explores Kate's FAVORITE horror movie of all time: The Conjuring. We discuss the true story behind the film, argue about the real-life husband and wife demonologist duo The Warrens, and discuss Kate's traumatic first experience watching this movie alone in the woods. This movie also knocks out Hereditary for the #1 spot on our movie Scoreboard! Plug in your earphones and join the club!
