After gruff Winter Slocum, finder of missing persons, gets a new case he calls on the assistance of former conservation officer Eris Renard and the family of friends the two of them developed while rescuing the beautiful Haugen sisters in ERIS RENARD. Ronja and Bara are back, along with Clint Long Elk and Harold Heap of Birds to help Winter solve the disappearance of a Denver woman’s secretive husband and two children. Winter finds himself captivated by his new client and goes to unusual lengths to find answers for her, stumbling into unknown territory with his unusual gift. He finds himself on a frightening journey into the past and struggles to connect the images he sees with events in the present when two men, a gun range owner related to his client, and the contentious leader of a “ragtag group of militiamen” keep popping up to cause problems for the group, one of them going so far as to contact a certain alien abductee for help in getting what he wants. And then Winter’s mother, Heidi, decides to visit her son at his newly inherited home. Absent for over forty years, she wants to know if he can still do that thing with his hands. The touching thing. She’s decided her psychometric son can be useful to her after all. Terrified of what he’s been seeing, and fearful of what comes next, Winter realizes he’s about to take his gift to a new level of intuition and awareness. He’s not entirely sure he wants to go where this is all taking him. It means finding answers, but it also means acknowledging a staggering truth. Good thing he has Eris Renard to lean on. The one person who has never let him down. He’ll need Eris and his friends more than ever before its all over.
